Motorola Tao Pictures

Over on Howard Forums some pictures of the new Motorola Tao have apparently been shown. The Motorola Tao was previously known as the Sholes and Shules and runs the Google Android OS. The phone is predicted to be a dual-band CDMA phone that is powered by a 1390mAh battery. A screen resolution of 480 x 854 pixels will be found on a screen measuring 3.7 inches.

The camera on the Motorola Tao will be 5 megapixels and input will be either by the touchscreen and QWERTY keyboard. The phoneSource: Gadget Venue RSS Feed

Facebook lets everyone crowdsource translations

When Facebook began expanding internationally, instead of paying professionals to translate its site into other languages, it turned to its users. They quickly made it available in 65 languages.

steampunk-inspired monster arcade cabinet

Arcade cabinets are just cool–there’s no way around that. However, when they’re built completely from the ground up, in a whole nifty steampunk motif, complete with a little touch of Frankenstein? Then they even make that ol’ Pac-Gentleman look… okay, that’s still pretty incredible, too.

It plays games! It plays music! It’s equipped with Edison electric light, so don’t try to use a match on it! That’s what the warning label says, anyway, and it seems like soundSource: technabob RSS Feed

Now that the various major players in the iPhone navigation arena have been out for a bit, I thought it would be a good time to mention that all of them have released (or are about to release) significant updates to their applications. Here’s a round-up of the most recent updates:

Palm PRE Price Drops To $79.99

If you bought a Palm PRE at full price just a few days ago, or even for $99.99 from Amazon, you should be kicking yourself right now. Letstalk.com now offers the WebOS phone for an ultra low $79.99 after a 2-year contract signing. Crazy? Perhaps, but this seems to be a good indicator that the PRE…

3 Ways to Protect Yourself Against Theft

For the remote worker on the road, that horror increases exponentially with the realization that you’ve lost your work, your colleagues’ details and data, your stored access passwords, and so on.

With your computer, that thief may also be able to access your and your contacts’ personal details, your online banking and payment accounts, email accounts, and other accounts Source: Web Worker Daily RSS Feed

Bauhaucycle

This baby was designed by one Michael Ubbesen Jakobsen. From baubike.dk:

The BauBike is inspired by Bauhaus design. It is constructed around the geometric shape of the square and the equilateral triangle. The design is stripped down to clean lines and raw material. The design follows a set of formal rules, limiting the geometry to straight lines in a pattern of 60 and 90 degree angles in proportions following the principle of the golden section.

Best Buy’s Entry In The Kindle Market Hunt–The iRex

So there’s been an announcement that Best Buy means to sell the iRex book reader to compete with Amazon’s Kindle, among numerous others.  It’ll cost a whopping four hundred bucks, but come with an eight inch touchscreen (8.1, actually), connect to Verizon Wireless networks, but while Verizon itself is open to connecting other e-readers through its networks, it’s not willing to sell the iRex in its own stores, at least for the time being.

ODROID Android prototype shows up again in PMP demo [Video]

Having wowed us with a high-definition playback demonstration earlier this month, Android gaming/PMP manufacturer HardKernel are back with another video demo of their ODROID handheld.  This time it’s on-device media playback being demonstrated, using the free album-art based RockOn app, on a prototype unit.

Don’t Take Chances on Losing a Big Client

Losing a big client actually launched my freelance writing career, but not all stories end as well as mine did. Today, I try to make sure the income I receive is spread across more clients so I don’t get into that situation again. You can’t always help it when one big client starts to contribute a large chunk of your income — but what happens if you lose that client?

You can be prepared. This situation is one that we should all consider in our plans.

A2M trademarks 'Naughty Bear,' no one shocked

Artificial Mind and Movement, better known to those in the gaming world as A2M, seems to be in the business of inappropriate euphemism name mashups. Starting with the company's own name's abbreviation, moving into the recently published Wet, and recently filing a trademark (spotted by Superannuation) for a new game titled "Naughty Bear," it appears as though the developer is on a mission to bring devilish grimaces to the faces of 13-year-old boys everywhere (ours included).

Season of sky oddities

Now that fall has arrived in the Northern Hemisphere, we can look forward to more of those misty, foggy, even icy mornings and evenings. And that's prime time for atmospheric curiosities such as sundogs and halos, sun pillars, moon rings and fogbows.

Google’s Plan to Become The Media Company [GigaOM]

Here’s a confession I’m a little uneasy making: I still read the newspaper every day. Not an online version, but an old-school, physical newspaper — the New York Times lands on my lawn each morning. But while the same stories have been online for hours, sometimes a day or more, there’s something about the newspaper — its layout, its tried-and-true design, even itsSource: GigaOM Network RSS Feed

Earlier this week, Google announced its intentions to start an exchange for display advertising, an attempt to take on Yahoo and its healthy position in the display ad business. Toshiba dynadock wireless U puts wireless USB to good use at last

We just spotted Toshiba's new wireless U dynadock in the flesh, and guess what: it looks a lot like a dynadock. The good news is that wireless USB makes the whole docking concept a lot more attractive, though we'd much rather have a solution that's integrated into the laptop -- the included wireless USB dongle looks quite precarious, and kind of ruins the whole idea of not having to plug anything in. September 12, 2009 [Uncertain Principles]

I almost forgot about yesterday's anniversary-- I didn't think of it at all until the fulsome tribute before Thursday night's football game. I actually waffled for a bit about whether to put up the annual moment-of-silence post. It's been eight years, everybody's concerns have shifted to other things, and September 11, 2001 doesn't loom quite as large as it did a few years ago.

I decided to go with it, though, for the same reasons as always. How long will I keep doing this

I couldn’t afford a Mercedes Benz AMG SLS unless I robbed two banks.

But I can admire the recently launched microsite for the car using Adobe Flash, SWFAddress for deeplinking and some rather cool Flash movies (*.flv). And that’s before you even see the car… which is downright beautiful with the gull wing doors that made 1954-1957 Mercedes 300SL so darn sexy.

Just go and drool. I won’t even list the anticipated price for this car. You know
